George Merrill

Based in Enfield, New Hampshire, I have been working in mixed media since 2014. In 2019, I moved from refurnishing furniture to creating and building one-of-a-kind steamships. I use found objects, specifically antique pieces from the United States and abroad.

I combine my passion for antiques with my love of collecting small boats and ships. My artwork is a brilliant myriad of textures and materials that tell a unique and compelling story. My work is extremely detailed and has a memorable impact on the observer in any room, large or small.

Originally from Vermont, I am a self-taught artist, but my parents were an inspiration to me. My mother was an artist specializing in watercolor and acrylics, while my father refinished antique furniture.

Salvaged Materials

I collect materials from antique shows and yard sales to construct my sculptures. I reuse wood and metal parts from old household objects and woodworking tools. My ships are inspired by the interesting shapes and sizes of these reclaimed finds.
